Holy Sails Don't fly!

Patching up sails can be a tricky business. Here are some nice easy steps on how to patch up any rip if you want to keep that training sail in action:

1) Dry the sail with whatever you can so that the patch adhesive sticks

2) Cut out a circle that is bigger than the whole

3) Why a circle? Because if you cut a square, the corners tend to peal away quickly!

4) Make sure the sail is flat and on a hard surface

5) When you apply the patch you don't want any creases so slowly press out the patch across the hole

The video bellow is a repair on a 4.5m Monofilm O'pen BIC sail, Using Mylar Repair tape from Whitworths - Click HERE for sales link. They also stock a range of different sail repair tape for Spinnakers and Dacron sails.

Make sure you are using the right tape for your class sail! If you are intending on using it for racing make sure the tape doesn't go against the class rules.
