The story of Wind Riders

To understand what is Wind Riders you must first know who is Jules Lawson. With more then 45 years experience in the sailing world, yacht master, senior sailing instructor, nurse, nature artist and a damn good mother! One could say she has nearly done it all.

She has passed on her love for sailing and the ocean to me (Jessie Lawson) and together we can never stop looking for the next adventure. Her latest was to conquer the Clarence river (sail the longest river in NSW, Australia), taking on 400 nautical miles in a bright yellow mirror dinghy. Smooth sailing is definitely not what you could call the first half of the trip as rapids called for a transport swap into a kayak to then meet the boat to complete the main leg.

Preparation for this endeavour was defiantly key as packing the boat efficiently with all food, water, navigation, shelter and enough space to sleep with only a beam measurement of 4 foot and 7 inches & overall length of 10ft. Available hull space was minimal to say the least.

Through completing this trip Jules raised $3,000 AUS dollars to put towards a water sport program that both of us would run, using our sailing qualifications and passion for the water. As some times life opens doors you aren't expecting, Headspace Brookvale came to us and said they wanted to partner with a fantastic organisation called WAVES OF WELLNESS (WOW) but needed funding to bring it to the Northern Beaches for the first time. Together we decided that this program was exactly what we wanted to support, as we are strong believers in the healing ability that the ocean can provide.

Together we have created Wind Riders to further share our love and passion for sailing, using the endeavour boat, we can trailer it anywhere (unlike any other sailing school we can come too you!)
